Terms of Service

Effective date: July 17, 2026

1. Agreement

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a binding agreement between you and Cardinalis Web Development (“we,” “us,” or “Operator”) governing your access to and use of Five Letter Tribe (the “Service”).

By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. The Service

Five Letter Tribe lets invited private groups (“tribes”) share daily Wordle results, compete on standings, and chat. Features may include invite links, join approval, proprietary scoring, tribal records, GIF chat, and paid hosting for tribe chiefs.

Independence from The New York Times. Five Letter Tribe is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by The New York Times Company or Wordle. You must obtain Wordle results from The New York Times (or other lawful sources) under their terms. We do not provide the Wordle puzzle itself.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

4. Accounts

You sign in using a third-party authentication provider (currently Google). You are responsible for maintaining control of that account and for activity under your Five Letter Tribe account. Provide accurate information and promptly update it if it changes.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, appear compromised, or create risk to the Service or other users.

5. Tribes, chiefs, and members

A “chief” (host) may create and manage tribes (up to three tribes of up to twenty people each), send invites, approve or deny join requests, remove members, configure tribe settings, and archive a tribe. Members join by invite and agree that chiefs control membership for that tribe.

Content and standings in a tribe are visible to that tribe’s members. Do not share invite links with people you do not want in your tribe.

If a chief’s subscription lapses or is canceled, tribe features may become limited or read-only until the plan is renewed, as described in the product.

6. Subscriptions and billing

Certain host features require a paid subscription. Current pricing is described on our Pricing page and may include approximately $2/month or $20/year, and a free trial of up to 14 days for eligible new chiefs. Prices and trial eligibility may change; changes do not affect amounts already charged except as required by law or Stripe’s processes.

Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you also agree to Stripe’s terms for payment processing. Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled through the billing portal or as otherwise offered in the product. Taxes may apply.

Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable once charged. Trial conversion and cancellation timing follow Stripe and the controls available in the customer portal.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for unlawful, harassing, hateful, or abusive purposes
  • Impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation
  • Attempt to access accounts, tribes, or data you are not authorized to access
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service, including scraping or overloading systems
  • Reverse engineer the Service except where such restriction is prohibited by law
  • Submit malware, spam, or content that infringes others’ rights
  • Use the Service in a way that violates The New York Times’ or other third parties’ terms

Chiefs are responsible for moderating their tribes in a manner consistent with these Terms and applicable law.

8. User content

You retain ownership of content you submit (including Wordle share text, chat messages, and GIFs you choose to post). You grant Cardinalis Web Development a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, and distribute that content solely as needed to operate and improve the Service (including showing it to tribe members).

You represent that you have the rights needed to submit the content and that it does not violate law or third-party rights.

9. Our intellectual property

The Service—including software, scoring logic, design, branding, and documentation—is owned by Cardinalis Web Development or its licensors. Except for the limited right to use the Service under these Terms, no rights are granted to you.

10. Privacy

Our collection and use of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms.

11. Third-party services

The Service depends on third parties (including Google, Stripe, hosting providers, Firebase, and GIF providers). We are not responsible for third-party services’ availability, policies, or acts. Your use of those services may be subject to their terms.

12. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT SCORES, STANDINGS, OR CHAT WILL BE ALWAYS ACCURATE OR AVAILABLE.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CARDINALIS WEB DEVELOPMENT AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID TO US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, the above limits apply to the fullest extent permitted.

14. Indemnification

You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Cardinalis Web Development and its personnel from and against claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of your content, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

15. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access immediately if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ends. Sections that by nature should survive (including ownership, disclaimers, limitations, and indemnity) will survive.

16. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may modify the Service or these Terms. We will post updated Terms on this page and revise the effective date. If a change is material, we may provide additional notice where reasonable. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance, except where prohibited by law.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Courts located in that jurisdiction will have exclusive venue for disputes, except where applicable law requires otherwise or where we seek injunctive relief in another venue.

18. Miscellaneous

These Terms are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede prior agreements on the subject. If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
