Anonymous here with an urgent public service announcement: your first Wordle guess is not just a word. It is a personality test, a tiny philosophy, and occasionally a cry for help sent in five letters.
Below: a field guide to popular opening strategies. None of these will make you immortal. All of them will make camp chat more entertaining when you share into Five Letter Tribe and pretend you meant to do that.

Random
The chaos agent. You close your eyes (spiritually), mash the keyboard of destiny, and accept whatever five-letter creature crawls out. Sometimes you land on a real word and look like a genius. Sometimes you invent "BLURT" and have to pretend that was the plan. Random is for people who believe the universe has a sense of humor and would like to be the punchline before breakfast. Torch still lights. Dignity is optional.
FARTS
Yes, we're saying it out loud — softly, like a polite cough. FARTS is a classic "cover the common letters" opener dressed in middle-school comedy. Efficient? Often. Mature? Debatable. Effective at waking up your private tribe's GIF game? Extremely. If you open with FARTS and somehow still finish in three, you are legally required to act surprised.
ADIEU
The fancy cousin who studied abroad. ADIEU (please note the spelling — we've all typed ADEIU in a panic) loads up on vowels like it's packing for a week in Paris. Elegant. A little dramatic. Perfect for people who want their first guess to sound like a farewell to ignorance. When half the vowels light up yellow, you look brilliant. When nothing does, you have simply said goodbye to a peaceful morning.
STARE
The responsible adult in the room. Common consonants, a useful vowel, no bathroom humor, no French exit — just a calm little word that gathers intel like a detective who drinks tea. STARE is what you play when you want the standings to respect you and your aunt to nod approvingly. It will not go viral in camp chat. It will, however, occasionally win.
AUDIO
Vowel maximalism with headphones on. AUDIO is ADIEU's tech-bro roommate: still obsessed with vowels, slightly more modern, ready to tell you what the puzzle "sounds like" before it has said anything. Great for narrowing the field. Even better for looking like you have a system when, deep down, you are still guessing with hope and vibes.

CRANE (or any "smart" opener)
The overachiever track. You read one article about letter frequency in 2022 and now your first guess is forever CRANE, SLATE, or whatever the algorithm whispered that week. This strategy says, "I optimize." Camp life says, "Cool story — light the torch anyway." There is no shame in a scientific start… unless you still brick it in six, in which case the science has betrayed you personally.
The only strategy that matters
Pick a lane. Commit to the bit. Share once into camp. Whether you opened with FARTS or something noble like STARE, the torch does not grade your morality — only whether you showed up. See you on the standings. Anonymous is rooting for your greens… and judging your opener, gently.
